Stefan Petrunov was born on 01.01.1964 in Sofia. He graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in Painting, in 1990 in the class of Academician Svetlin Rusev. He participated in several exhibitions in the country, in the period 1990 - 1993. In the following years, he worked mainly as a graphic designer and digital illustrator for Bulgarian and foreign companies. In 1998, he started working for one of the largest clip art companies at that time, the Canadian New Vision Technology, working with clients such as Microsoft Corp. and Getty Images. In 2000, he was nominated for the best Bulgarian postage stamp at the Vienna International Postage Stamp Exhibition - WIPA for short. In the period between 2001 and 2007, he worked for the English Swan Multimedia Ltd. as a graphic designer, and later as an art director. He decided to return to the art world in 2007. He has had several solo exhibitions in Bulgaria, and also participated in group exhibitions in the country and abroad. During his participation in the Contemporary Art Exhibition in Barcelona - April 27, 2013, organized by GAA, he won the award for best artist - “Barcelona Showcase Best Artist Award 2013” - given by the jury. In recent years, he has participated in several major international art exhibitions such as Art Expo New York, Art Spectrum Miami, and the “Anima Mundi” art festival accompanying the Venice Biennale. Currently, he works with two galleries from Germany and the USA. He lives and works in Sofia, Bulgaria. Member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists, and the Austrian art association “Meteor”.

I often use photographs as my sources for creating paintings, and I especially love old period photos. They bring their specific atmosphere and provoke me to mix them and create new images. Sometimes I deliberately modify some of them and as a result I have a strange situation, but often one can recognize the historic or political hints, or psychological tension.”
